What is a plastic surgeon?

A plastic surgeon is trained to specialize in the surgery of skin and soft tissue. They are uniquely qualified to perform aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive surgical and nonsurgical procedures in all areas of the body.

In Canada, the designation of a “Plastic Surgeon” is only given to physicians who have undergone the rigorous training in a plastic surgery residency and have achieved the national board certification through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. There are other physicians who also perform cosmetic surgery or procedures like cosmetic surgeons, general surgeons, ENT surgeons (otolaryngologists), gynaecologists, dermatologists and family physicians. But they do not have the same training as a plastic surgeon.

Do I need a referral?

For cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures a referral from another physician is not necessary. Please call the clinic at (306) 665-5005 or email at info@premieresaskatoon.ca for an appointment.

Is there a consultation fee?

If you would like to discuss surgical procedures, there is a consultation fee, but if you proceed to book surgery after your consultation, the consultation fee is deducted from your surgical fee. Non-surgical procedures like Botox®/Injectable Fillers/Belkyra®, the consultation is free. For a skin care consultation with our cosmetician, the consultation is also free.

How long do I have to wait?

Typically, the consultation can be booked within a few weeks of you contacting us. For surgical times, we can usually arrange for surgery within two to three months of booking the surgery.

Will plastic surgery leave a scar?

With any surgical procedure a scar is inevitable, however, usually the scars are minimal and improve with time.  Dr. Chandran will discuss various strategies to minimize the appearance of scars.

What is the price of my procedure?

Your plastic surgical or nonsurgical procedure is unique to you. The price of a surgical or nonsurgical procedure is quite variable depending on what you need and want. As a result, the consultation is required to determine the price of the procedure that you need. A quote will be provided at the end of your consultation.

How can I pay?

What is the recovery time?

Depending on the procedure the recovery time can vary. Recovery time can also vary according to your lifestyle and the demands of your employment. Dr. Chandran will discuss the recovery time from surgery that is uniquely suited to you.

Does cosmetic breast surgery affect my risk of breast cancer?

Cosmetic breast surgery does not increase the risk of breast cancer.  There are some studies that show that a breast augmentation can improve the detection of breast cancer but that has not been well established. If you have a breast lift (mastopexy), Dr. Chandran does recommend a mammogram about 12 months after the surgery to have a baseline image of your breasts for future mammograms.

Is a mammogram safe after a breast augmentation?

If you have a breast augmentation you should let the mammography technician know that you have breast implants so that they can do special views.  Occasionally, the radiologist may recommend further imaging. Dr. Chandran recommends waiting at least 6 months after a breast augmentation to have a mammogram, if a mammogram is necessary for other reasons.  A mammogram is not routinely done after a breast augmentation.

Do breast implants need to be replaced?

The current generation of breast implants only need to be replaced if there is a complication like a capsular contracture where the breast gets hard and painful.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a surgery where 2 or more of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation, mastopexy (breast lift) or liposuction is performed at the same time to rejuvenate a woman’s body after pregnancy.
